{La Vuelta al Mundo} Rostros | Faces

Despues de muchos meses, volví a participar en el grupo fotográfico de Jackie Rueda, La Vuelta al Mundo. Para el mes de noviembre, la propuesta fue fotografiar rostros de personas. Aqui están las fotos que hice.

{Historias de New York} Animales a la hora de la siesta

No soy muy amante de los zoológicos Creo que los animales tienen que vivir en su hábitat natural. Tenerlos encerrados en jaulas con burdas imitaciones de naturaleza es simplemente cruel.

Había escuchado hablar del zoológico del Bronx por mis jefes y, según decían ellos, era un lugar que tenía que ir a conocer. Así que organizamos para ir al zoo con Graciela y ella llevó a unos amigos del trabajo.

Nos recibió un camello con cara simpática que descansaba bajo la fresca sombra de unas lonas rojas mientras esperaba pacientemente que algún visitante curioso alquilara un paseo en camello. Tenia cara graciosa y un olor penetrante!

Seguimos el recorrido y por mas que mirábamos con detenimiento, no encontrábamos animales por ningún lado! Era un día domingo soleado de verano, recién pasadito el mediodía. Mi teoría fue que los animales estaban durmiendo la siesta del domingo! La confirmó este oso polar al cual le interrumpieron la siesta las voces fuertes y agudas de unos niños que gritaban para que se despertara...

Escondidas entre los altos pastos, encontramos una familia de jirafas que retozaban bajo el sol de la tarde. Había una jirafa bebe que era absolutamente adorable! Tienen patas muy finas, pero de huesos fuertes para soportar la altura que tienen.

Había una gran cantidad de gorilas! Gorilas bebés que jugaban con sus mamás. Gorilas bebés que jugaban con otros bebés. Gorilas mayores que, claramente, no querían ser molestados. Gorilas traviesos que se balanceaban de las ramas de los arboles. Gorilas curiosos que se acercaban al vidrio de la "jaula" e interactuaban con los muchos visitantes.

Fotografiando personas || Photographing people

I wasn´t very interested in taking photos of people before. I found it particularly boring. It was very hard for me to try and take a nice portrait of a kid... you know most kids, moving all the time, unable to sit still for more than 20 seconds... Whenever I shot it, the photo came out looking funny... Was it me? Was it the kid? Was it the camera?...

I kept blaming the camera, to be honest! Oh my compact camera! But then, something happened. I started browsing other blogs, professional photographers blogs. Annie Manning and her kids happened.

I started to find beauty on the funny little faces. I found beauty in silly facial expressions and looks. I discovered the gigantic beauty of the not so perfect photo.

That did it for me. It changed something in the way I was looking at my people photos. All my judgemental and quizzical thoughts faded away! I´m even developing a new project with people in pictures but I haven´t officially started it yet... just yet... I may have taken the first set of the project already. I may...

So, in honor of my personal discovery, here are my lovely girlies Cecilia and Audrey in black and white and color, playing and being their usual goofy selves! {Notice I´m also starting on B&W photography!}

And this is my friend Aldo when we went to Rosario the other night. I actually went to Rosario, he already lives there. Although, he is not a native from the city. He moved here a year ago for work. We actually work at the same hospital but in different areas and we became friends. And, most importantly, he is not camera shy. In fact, he loves to have his photos taken! (Oh, the male ego!) So I´m taking full advantages of this fact. Most pics I took are not good because I was trying to find the perfect setting regarding lighting and shadows and backlighting. It was at night and all the neon lights were on making it hard for me to do what I wanted. The picture I love the most is blurry and unfocused. Such a shame because he had this huge and sincere smile on his face!

This is my younger brother, Leonel. He is a nurse and works as chief nurse at a retirement home. I keep telling him he should be working in an Intensive Care Unit or even an ER because he is great to work under pressure. He is very smart and performs flawless procedures in no time. But he just wants to work with old people and he is really good at it as well. The patients just love him!

No habia notado que ambas tenian sus piernitas cruzadas hasta despues que baje la foto a la computadora!

Son muy comicas estas dos petisas!

The sweetest redhead

Audrey at the Noroton Presbiterian nursery school playground one steamy and hazy summer afternoon. We couldn't stay out in the sun for long because her fair skin would turn a fiery red! I could totally relate to that with her. Because, although not a redhead myself, my skin is as fair as hers.

I miss my "babycake" (as I called her) a lot.

El comienzo del mes primaveral

Septiembre comenzo!!

Menos de 20 dias para la llegada de la primavera en este hemisferio sur!! Tuvimos un antincipo del calorcito la semana pasada (estuvo realmente bordeando el calor veraniego!) y luego empezo a soplar el viento de la famosa tormenta de Santa Rosa y la temperatura disminuyo bastante. Ya veremos que nos depara el destino, meteorologicamente hablando.
